IT'D BE NICE IF SUCCESS WAS ALWAYS EXHILERATINGLY FUN.
As much as I'd love to think that my job was always full of mountaintop moments (quite literally), the reality of life is that after those moments comes moments where I have to sit at my desk and work through the content I've captured, plan for future excursions, and just generally keep up my business.
AND THAT PART ISN'T QUITE AS FUN.
I'd much rather spend my time out with amazing clients capturing beautiful content and making memories...that sounds infinitely more fun than sitting on hold with accounting firms and attorneys to make sure my business is functioning as it should. I'd much rather be out exploring and scouting new locations than planning out budgets, organizing hard drives, writing contracts, and sending invoices.
But the reality of life is that success is built on the foundation of those non-glamorous moments. "Organic", natural growth happens because of a massive volume of work put in to keeping things functioning and running smoothly. And even the "random", crazy moments of insane success can always be traced back to consistent hustle, struggling through the dead moments, and pushing towards an end goal step-by-step.
SUCCESS IS buiLT ON NON-GLAMOROUS MOMENTS.
I'm writing this blog to myself today.
Right now, I'd love to be outside, climbing some cliff by the ocean and capturing some beautiful moments with clients. But those moments are for later – right now, my next step is to simply sit at my desk and pour through a massive volume of content I have to produce over the next few weeks. Right now I know that to achieve future success, I have to fight through the struggle of the right now.
So if this is you today – know that I feel you! It can get discouraging in the midst of the valley moments to see the future you're building. It can be frustrating to consume yourself with the seemingly menial tasks you have to accomplish right now. It's easy to forget that those little moments are the building blocks of the foundation for future success.
But keep it up. Keep pushing, keep fighting, don't get discouraged. The mountaintop moments will come later – right now, success is built with the struggle.
